Forge fundamentals through a complete beginner-friendly build: hammer control, heat cycles, beveling, normalization, harden/temper, then finish & sharpening. Shop safety, fuel/forge setup, and small-shop tooling are baked in.

What You’ll Learn

  • Heat colors, magnet test, thermal cycling, and grain refinement
  • Profiling, beveling, straightening, and stress relief
  • Quench selection, temper curves, and simple hardness checks
  • Edge geometry, burr control, stropping & safe handling

  1. Safety, tools, and steel overview; forge lighting & temp reading
  2. Forging profile & setting bevels; normalization cycles
  3. Hardening, tempering, basic grind & hand finishing
  4. Sharpening workflow; care & maintenance

Bring / We Provide

  • Bring: cotton clothing, closed-toe shoes/boots, water.
  • We provide: eye/ear protection, aprons, consumables, steel & abrasives.
  • Personal hammers welcome (2–3 lb) but not required.
